Here is are the highlights of Hadley's two weeks of life.
August 20th: Hadley Abigail born 7lbs 14 oz and 21 inches
August 22nd: Breastfeeding Clinic heard heart murmur
August 24th: Pediatrician heard murmur and called KU Med immediately.
August 25th: Hadley was diagnosed with Double Outlet Right Ventricle (DORV) with a subpulmonary ventricular septal defect. In other words, her aorta and pulmonary artery are in the wrong places and she has a whole between her left and right ventricle. We were told she would need surgery and until then we would be treating all the symptoms that we would begin to see over the next few weeks.
August 30th: Already seeing increased respiration due to fluid building up on the lungs. Going to start medication to get rid of the fluid.
September 2nd: Another appointment with the cardiologist at KU Med. A second echo showed no changes and confirmed what the Dr. saw last week. She would like to move ahead sooner with surgery while Hadley is healthy.
September 3rd: To the pediatrician again to check oxygen, blood pressure and weight gain. She passed her birth weight by 1 oz. Yeah!
This has been the last two weeks. Only two weeks? Feels like it's been months since we found out. She continues to appears to be a typical baby........ on the outside. She is a great eater and alert baby.
